SproutVideo offers three different privacy settings for playlists: Public, Private, and Password Protected.
- A public playlist appears on SproutVideo hosted landing pages, video websites and anywhere it is embedded. It is accessible by anyone with the link.
- A private playlist is not accessible on SproutVideo hosted landing pages or video websites. It must be embedded on another website to become accessible and playable.
- A password protected playlist will require a password on SproutVideo hosted landing pages, video websites and when embedded on another website. If you don’t want to protect the playlist with a password when embedded, toggle off “Enable password protection for embeds.” It is toggled on by default.
Change Your Playlist Privacy Settings
Navigate to the ‘Playlists’ page, then select the individual playlist you would like to change privacy settings for.
Scroll down to the ‘Playlist Privacy’ list, then select the privacy setting you’d like to use, and click ‘Save / Update Privacy Settings’.
How Individual Video Privacy Settings Work With Playlists
Private videos and public videos can both be viewed within a playlist depending on your selected settings and how you are sharing your playlist. The difference is that a public video will also appear and be playable on individual SproutVideo landing pages and video websites outside of the playlist, whereas a private video will not by default.
A password protected, login protected, or email-gated video will still require a password, or a login, or an email address respectively to be entered in order to be viewed within a playlist.
Private Video Access for Playlists on the Video Website
Typically, private videos cannot be viewed or accessed on your SproutVideo-hosted video website or landing pages. Enabling this site editor setting will allow access to your private videos only in the context of a playlist that is accessible on your SproutVideo-hosted site. This means that viewers would only have access to private videos by navigating through your playlist landing pages.
Visibility of Login Protected Videos on the Video Website
By default, login protected videos are not visible on the video website until a viewer has logged in. Enabling this site editor setting will allow logged out viewers to see your videos on any listing page or visible playlist. Viewers are still required to log in to play any login protected video. If a viewer is logged in, they will only see videos they have access to watch.
